°ne °f these things is n°t like the °thers...

Ok, technically 2 of these things is not like the other(s) but only one of them does not belong.

And honestly I don't know how the other thing even got into the mix.
It's like the other day, damn nearly put both contacts in the same eye...who knew?

℞℞℞ PILL POPPER ℞℞℞

Who knew a simple prescription drug bottle would prove to be so much fun to photograph!!

It made for some interesting shots for sure.

Several of them were hard for people to guess just what in the heck they were looking at! And that's the way I like it!

Shrouded in mystery ;)

♜ ♞ ♝ ♛ How do you like your OJ??? ♚ ♝ ♞ ♜

This is a good example of 2 things that do not go together; in unision- "one of these things is not like the others...".

While I am quite certain that you will be able to ascertain one of the objects in question, I'm 99.9% positive that the other will escape you....and that's OK.

So, the orange object is in fact: an orange!!
The thing sticking into it is a letter opener.
Don't ask me how I manage to put those two things together and take picture of it.

∞∞∞ Have you seen my Van Halen 1984 Cassette??? ∞∞∞

Ok, so it's not a Van Halen cassette but I did have one at a point in time!
These are just of an ordinary blank cassette, still have some kicking around for some reason.
I suspect much in the same way for some reason I still have 3-1/2 floppies around!
Back to the tape. Would you look at that thing...no wonder they sounded like crap ;)
More interesting than CD when it comes to pictures I imagine...only so many thing you can do with a flat shiny surface!!

☄☄☄ Mayor of Magnet City ☄☄☄

These were fun but it was hard to set them up b/c their surface area is so big compared to what I usually shoot.

I had to get crafty and find good angles and ways to stack/arrange them.

They are ordinary refrigerator magnets!
Not much to look at but very colorful :)

Turned out pretty good I thought but what do you think?

ξξξGet a helmet and a roll bar...

" Get a helmet and a roll bar (turnin' it on, blowin' it out) and I'll be ready to
go (turnin' it on, blowin' it out)
Take it out to Pomona (turnin' it on, blowin' it out) and let 'em know
(turnin' it on, blowin' it out), yeah, yeah
That I'm the coolest thing around. Little buddy, gonna shut you down
When I turn it on, wind it up, blow it out GTO

Part 4 of 4.

It would have been great to have had a full moon when it got really dark but it was pretty much pitch black.

I had intentions of using the flash units to illuminate the car but in the end my friend saved me with his maglite flashlight.

He used the flashlight to 'paint' the car with light and the results were very good from what I was seeing through the viewfinder.

Need to find myself a really nice flashlight with multiple settings and head so I can control the light a little better - what we had was fine but it did require some trial and error along the way.

Hopefully I can parlay this into several additional shoots but this time for $$ :)

This little modified Pon-Pon has got plenty of style

C'mon and turn it on, wind it up, blow it out GTO

Part 3 of 4.

The sunset was less than stellar - that is to say not very impressive. So the night time shots were something I was banking on as far as them turning out ok.

It just wasn't in the cards for the sunset, not enough clouds for one. Not that it would have been easy to execute very many shots in the short time that the sun really hits the clouds for that "wow factor.

We tried a couple of different ways to light the car in the dark. I brought 2 flash units and one umbrella. While those were good, they often left big reflections in the car and so we tried something else, a simple mag-lite flashlight an it was awesome.

This is also know as "painting with light". Basically we tripped the shutter, 30-second exposure and my friend 'painted' the car with his flash light :)

Turned out pretty good I thought! Though I still want to get a little better uniformity next time!!

Part 2 of 4.

This wasn't even our first location choice to soot, more of an after thought.

Originally we were shooting for a mall parking lot over looking the downtown area.

We got to the mall and wouldn't you know it, it was full up! I mean it was packed. No idea why there were so many cars there.

1) It was beyond the main parking area
2) It's not like it was even close to holiday shopping!!

We got some good daylight and nighttime shots (to follow in parts 3&4).

What surrpised me is how fast that sun sets though! I mean it was gone before I even had 10 shots in I think.

Got to be quick and have an idea of what you want to accomplish to get that lighting just right...I'll have a little better feel next time for sure.

Thought it was time to take a break from the macro.

A) After all, it's not the only thing I shoot!
B) My PhotoBucket is full - that has all the macro pics in it (bandwidth issues)
C) see A&B

These are far from perfect - Photoshopping included.

I got burned big time by one of my hard drives - before I could
back up all the edits I made, poof - gone! :(

So these are take 2! Let that be a lesson - immediately back up that important stuff.
I lost at least 6 hours of editing!

Hopefully I did them a little justice on my 2nd pass here.
Let me know what you think of my before & afters!

ζζ Mars Lunar Rover or Couch Crater? ζζ

Man, I really should clean in-between the couch cushions more often!
Never know what you're going to find!!

Including but not limited to: 2 Universal remotes, 4-6 goldfish (the crunchy ones - [I say 4-6 b/c not all of the bodies are readily identifiable]), the loose change (17cents), one fruit loop, toy cow, and of course what you see below which I believe used to be tortilla chips.

I kid of course!! These are some tiny lichens found on th side of a tree...though by all accounts I could probably get some pretty interesting shots of the under side of a couch cushion!!!

°°°_D¤n't Be a ¶in HeaD_°°°

Say hello to my little friends!!!

While they look every bit like nails, they are not. They are common pin heads (not unlike most of my friends). Surprised right, that I even have friends??

Now if I was really talented I might have drawn smiley faces and or written quotes on the top of the heads but sadly I am not that skilled nor nearly that patient.

Of course the hardest part about shooting something that reflects so much light, is trying to get the right amount of light and the angle which will yield few hot spots (completely white spots of light).

I usually just use a single light source for these macro shots, a common 40 watt desk lamp. BUT, I also incorporate diffusers in order to soften/diffuse the lighting. The pink hues below are actually caused by red/pink pieces of construction paper in front of the lamp.

This serves 2 purposes: 1) softening(diffusing) the light, 2) being able to change the colors without ever having to changing the light source.

Enjoy!
